Losing an hour of sleep is never fun. Millions of individuals around the world woke up this morning later than expected and are feeling the effects of daylight savings time.
But before we play the blame game, it's important to know the origins of daylight savings time. While Ben Franklin is often credited for starting daylight savings time, George Vernon Hudson is to blame for your lack of sleep.
An entomologist, Hudson needed more time to collect bugs after getting off of his day job at the Wellington Post Office. Hudson believed that more people would benefit from the extra hours of sunlight during the spring. He presented his idea in 1895 and it was adopted by most nations during the late 1920s.
As a result, you're likely dragging through this day because of the lost hour of sleep.–amir shaw
